Grange Baptist Community Church

Church History

In the year 1919 two events took place at Newmarket which was to affect the lives of hundreds of Baptists for many years to come.

  • 1919 - The First event was a gift of land by Mr Bush, a grocery store owner of Bowen Bridge Road. He made the gift to the Baptist City Tabernacle. The site of land was adjacent to the Progress hall in Wilston Road. It is presumed that the gift was made to enable Baptists to worship in their own Church. Previously Sunday School and Services were held in the Progress Hall during 1916.
  • The second event was the handing over of the land that had been received from Mr Bush to the Home Mission Committee and permission was granted to build a Church. The building fund stood at £7/18/6 (about $15.85).

Church Building

  • 2004-2007 - A Major decision by the members to renovate the premises took place in 2004. This work has been carried out over 4 years with the majority of the work being completed by the congregation. The Church now fits into the style of the local area with Decking, Shade Sails & gardens. Major changes have also been completed internally but still retaining the feel and form of a place of worship to God.
